Avoid These Three Resume Mistakes

Improve your chances at landing an interview by dodging these common resume mistakes.

- Writing before choosing your career target. Creating a resume without a job target is like target shooting before you set up the target. No matter how many rounds you fire, you’re not going to connect.

- Keeping all your options open. Job seekers think they will miss opportunities by narrowing their focus, but it’s not true. Your best chance of landing a job comes with one well-chosen target.

- Applying for a wide variety of jobs. A client used the same resume to apply for jobs she was qualified for in management, sales, and customer management. She wasn’t getting interviews because her resume confused hiring authorities. When she focused her resume and search on one target, she landed a position she really wanted.
